And I let you get away….

Whilst the EOS 1DX mark ii is weather sealed, technically the 85mm f/1.2L II USM is not (even with a filter attached).  Nonetheless, we just kept the lens hood attached, draped a towel over the top of the barrel and kept shooting in the middle of a sudden Texas thunderstorm and everything was fine.

The $5900 price for the EOS 1DX mark ii can be extremely hard to stomach, especially when the 5D mark iv is $2400 less and offers virtually all of the same technical abilities (and used 5D mark iiis are hitting the market at super affordable prices and aren’t that far behind technically either).

But weather sealing — along with that 14FPS to get the “perfect” rain shot (of which the above is not, it’s simply a random frame grab) — are some of the reasons why people pay the extra arm and a leg for the 1DX mark ii and it’s nice to actually use these features in production.

(Kudos to our lovely model for not batting an eyelash, wiping away running mascara and jumping straight into the midst of the storm.)
